Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for a FOCUS Consumer Education Loan:
- Student must be enrolled at least half-time.
- Borrower(s) must be at least 18 years old.
- Borrower or co-borrower must have an established credit history.
- Borrower or co-borrower must be a U.S. citizen or permanent
resident.
- International students may apply with a co-borrower who is
a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
It’s Easy to Apply
Every borrower’s situation is different. That’s why
we offer three convenient borrower options.
- Student as borrower - Choose this option if the student has
an established credit history and can qualify on his/her own
signature.
- Student with co-borrower - If the student doesn’t meet
the minimum eligibility requirements on his/her own, he/she
can apply with a creditworthy co-borrower.
- Sponsor(s) as borrower(s) - This option is for parents or
other creditworthy borrowers who wish to apply on a student’s
behalf and take full responsibility for the loan.
Borrowing Tip: Even if the student meets the minimum credit criteria,
applying with a creditworthy co-borrower may provide the most
favorable loan terms.
The Focus Consumer Education Loan is offered by AFC in cooperation
with Education Finance Partners. AFC is the marketing agent for

Footnotes
1 - The Annual Percentage Rate (APR) is calculated based on the
3-Month LIBOR Index plus a spread. The spread will be determined
based significantly on the borrower’s credit rating. The
London Interbank Offered Rate Index (LIBOR) is an average of the
interest rates that major international banks charge one another
to borrow U.S. dollars in the London money market. The LIBOR index
is published daily in the “Money Rates” section of
the Wall Street Journal. The 3-Month LIBOR Index in effect for
the second quarter 2007 (04/01/07–06/30/07) on the FOCUS
Consumer Education Loan is 5.35%. The lowest APR available for
this period is 7.35%, assuming principal and interest payments
begin immediately and there are no fees. The interest rate/APR
is variable and may increase over the life of the loan.
2 - A loan origination fee may be incurred at
disbursement depending on the credit rating of the borrower.
3 - This payment example is accurate for the
second quarter 2007 (04/01/07–06/30/07). It assumes that
the borrower qualifies for the lowest interest rate of 7.35% and
incurs no fees on a $10,000 loan, payments are deferred for the
first 60 months, and payments are made for the next 240 months.
The interest rate/APR is variable and may increase over the life
of the loan.
